Description This is a campaign button from the 1900 presidential election featuring William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. The button is celluloid process with tinplate backing and a paper label. The front of the button has a tan or gold background with a red, white, and blue ribbon tied in a bow above the men's portraits. The portraits are circular with a white background. McKinley is pictured on the viewer's left of the button, and Roosevelt is on the viewer's right. The paper label on reverse features the following inscription printed in black on a white background: "MADE FOR THE/ NATIONAL EQUIPMENT CO/ 10-12/ E. 23D ST./ NEW YORK/ TEL. 247 18TH ST./ ALLIED PRINTING/ TRADES UNION LABEL COUNCIL/ NEWARK, N.J./ BY/ The Whitehead & Hoag Co./ NEWARK, N.J./ PAT. JULY 7,1894/ APRIL 14, 1896, JULY 21, 1896".
Notes McKinley, a Republican, defeated Democrat Wm. Jennings Bryan in 1896 and 1900. He died in office Sept. 14, 1901 after being shot by an assassin.
