Description This quilt has two sides. One is a crazy quilt. The other has a large floral pattern. The side with the floral pattern has four rows of large flowers made of two inch hexagon pieces. The pieces are made of silk and cotton. There is a center piece surrounded by three rows of "petals". The colors range from green, to pink, blue, floral patterns etc. The flowers are separated by black hexagonal pieces with a purple piece at each corner. The quilt has a yellowish satin ribbon binding. The crazy quilt side is a "Happy Q" pattern. The crazy quilt is divided into twenty-five squares. Each square is made up of various sizes and types of material. There are a variety of embroidered images on the quilt. They include a shanty boat (in one corner), a Mandarin, birds, rooster, dogs, rabbits, a variety of flowers, children, and cupids. There is a purple velvet horseshoe on one edge. There is a black velvet circle on one side that has a pink silk center. There are white flowers and green leaves embroidered on the silk. Embroidered on the black velvet are the initials "C.S.N." and a fork/knife, coffee grinder, cream pitcher, coffee cup, coffee pot, piano, and a flower. There are also some silk pieces that have hand painted designs on them.
Notes The donor was the grandson of the maker, Mary Ann Best. She was from Paint Lick, Kentucky.
