Description This is an oval place mat of pieced lace. Alencon lace provides background. The center of place mat is a diamond shaped piece of bobbin lace and is surrounded by a band of Torchon lace. Two bands of Alencon lace run along two sides, both have the same floral design and outside these bands are two butterflies of bobbin lace facing the center. The other corners are made of needlerun lace and embroidered lace. Two bands of lace finish the edge, the bands are both Valenciennes laces with floral or fruit designs. The outer edge is scalloped.
Notes The place mat or center piece was made by the donor's mother-in-law, Mrs. Ellen Shackleford Mock; made in the early 1900's in Millersburg and Ashland,Ky.
