Description This is a chromolithograph of the Icelandic or Jer Falcon from the Bien Edition of Audubon's Birds of America. The image depicts two large black and white falcons on a wash of blues. The two birds have bright yellow beaks and taloned legs. One bird appears to be diving into the bird below who is resting on a grassy cliff-like surface. The sky above appears to be a dark blue grey or navy blending into a lighter baby blue that blends into what appears to be greenish streaks, possibly depicting water, at the level of the grassy area. Above the image reads, to the left "No. 13-2" and to the right "PLATE 19." Below the image on the lower left reads, "Drawn from Nature by J. J. Audubon, F. R. S., F. L. S." and on the lower right reads "Chromolithy. by J. Bien, New York 1860." The legend centered below the image reads, "Iceland or Jer Falcon/ FALCO ISLANDICUS, Lath./ Female Birds." There are two signatures signed on the reverse, "Bart A. Brown" and "Nina M. Visscher."
Notes Audubon was born in 1785 and died in 1851. Bien was born in 1826 and died in 1909.
