Description This chromolithograph comes from the Bien Edition of Audubon's Birds of America. No. 2-1, Plate 385. It depicts four ducks in a shallow pool that is surrounded by heavy tall grass in right background. There are two males, which have green heads and brown plumage with blue and white trim. The two females are speckled tan with blue trim. The legend at the bottom reads: "Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon, F.R.S., F.L.S. / Chromolithy. by J. Bien, New York 1859 / Mallard Duck, Anas Boschas, Linn. 1, Male. 2, Female." On the reverse side are two signatures in ink: Bart A. Brown and Nina M. Visscher.
Notes Audubon was born in 1785 and died in 1851. Bien was born in 1826 and died in 1909.
