Description This crazy quilt is heavily embroidered and is constructed of nine rectangles close to square and a long rectangle along the entire bottom. There are cottons, velvets, silk, and felt. Each square is fixed onto an inner lining of white muslin. The quilt has the initials "M.P." embroidered near the center. There is a robin in the center top square, white crane in the center square, a fan in the center right square. There are additional fans, flowers and wheat sheaves. The quilt is backed with red linen. There is no edging and no batting.
Notes This quilt was made by Mary Elizabeth Martin, wife of Henry Clay Poynter. Mrs. Poynter was born May 17, 1853 and died December 22, 1920.
