Description This is a large wooden trunk. It is nailed together with cut nails and as a curved lid. It is covered with buffalo or deer hide secured by vertical leather strips tacked down with brass tacks. It has leather handles on the sides. A lock is mortised into the front. The interior is lined with THE MAYSVILLE EAGLE, May 18, 1820 newpaper.
Notes Attributed by the donor to have come to Harrison County with "some of the first settlers." The newspaper, nails, and screw support the early date (c. 1800-1820).
