Description This chromolithograph on paper is Night Hawk from the Bien Edition of Audubon's Birds of America. No. 7-3, Plate 43. It depicts three small black and white Hawks that are perched upon a white oak tree. They are chasing large winged insects. The legend at the bottom reads: "Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon, F.R.S., F.L.S. / Chromolithy. by J. Bien, New York 1860 / Night Hawk / Caprimulgus Virginianus, Briss. Male, 1. Female, 2. White Oak / Quercus alba." On the reverse side are two signatures in ink: "Bart A. Brown" and "Nina M. Visscher".
Notes Audubon was born in 1785 and died in 1851. Bien was born in 1826 and died in 1909.
