Description This is an oval placemat made of pieced lace. The center medallion is a piece of fine linen embroidered with a floral pattern. The medallion is bordered by two rows of bobbin lace separated by a narrow band of Valenciennes lace. Four tear drop shaped pieces are attached to the medallion; one drop is made of Battenburg or tape lace, two are made of bobbin lace, and the last is made of needle run lace. Each of them are bordered by tape lace. There are four separate designs between the drops; two are medallions with tatted centers and the other two are embroidered net. Two bands of Valenciennes lace finish the edge.
Notes The place mat or center piece was made by the donor's mother-in-law, Mrs. Ellen Shackleford Mock; made in the early 1900's in Millersburg and Ashland,Ky.
