Description This is a wire mule muzzle. It is very crudely made, with rope, burlap, and fabric ties to go around the head. The wire pieces are twisted together and form non-uniform mesh.
Notes Collected by former staff at Eastern State Hospital for a planned museum, 1956-69. Eastern was opened in 1824 as the state "Lunatic Asylum." The collection documented the lives of patients as sick persons and as wards of the state forced to earn their keep.
