Description This is a variation of a feathered star patterned quilt. It is hand-quilted. Each star is comprised of eight large diamonds that meet at a center point to create an eight-pointed star. The border of the star is trimmed in small triangles to create a feathered appearance. There are 18 full stars and portions of 13 stars along the edges. The quilt blocks are made with madder styled calicos and prints, predominantly in browns, tans, with some blues, greens and pinks. The field between each star is white. There are small squares where the star points meet that have square quilting. Large squares between the stars and feature fancy quilting between blocks arranged in a grid pattern, feathered plumes, and wreaths. The quilt has a navy blue print binding, and it has a solid backing of course white cotton fabric. There is a repair with brown thread on the left edge near the center
Notes This quilt was made by Mrs. William Phillips (Margaret Graham Phillips). She was born in 1771 and died in 1843 in Frankfort. She married William Phillips, who was born in New Jersey in 1779 and died in 1864. Both are interred at the Frankfort Cemetery in Frankfort, Kentucky.
