Description This is an iron handled tamper with a rectilinear wood striking head that is reinforced at the base with a square iron band and at the neck with an iron ring. The hollow iron shaft is mortised into the neck and pinned.
Notes A tool used to tamp dirt, sand, gravel, etc. Collected by the donor from antique stores, barns, etc. in southern Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky over the last thirty years.
