Description This portrait of Czarina Maria Alexandrovna depicts her wearing a white dress with multiple flounces on the sleeves and skirt. The front of the dress is decorated with ruffles and bows with lace around the collar. There are pearls intertwined in her hair (which is parted in the middle and swept toward the back of her head). She is also wearing strands of pearls around her neck and wrists. She is wearing a gold ring and bracelet on her left arm.
Notes Czar Alexander II of Russia presented this painting along with one of himself to Cassius M. Clay who was Minister to St. Petersberg from the United States. Clay gave the paintings to the Kentucky Historical Society in 1904.
