Description This advertisement is a page from Polk's Kentucky State Gazetteer and Business Directory for 1876-77, Louisville. It shows a black and white ad for The Anderson Distillery Co. It reads "The Newcomb-Buchanan Co., Distillers and Wholesale Whiskey Merchants, Proprietors of the Celebrated Anderson and Nelson Distilleries, Producing The Very Highest Grades Of Hand-Made Sour Mash And Pure Copper, Bourbon, and Rye Whiskies, Louisville, KY." In the center of the advertisement, there is a small image of the distillery with the title "The Anderson Distillery Co. Hand Made Sour Mash" printed across the top. The distillery has a large four story building off to the left with a sign that says "U.S. Bonded Warehouse" on its right side. A smokestack is in front of this sign. Two horses pull a wagon down a street in front of a building that gradually gets higher from left to right. To the right center, a building with a reservoir has a flag flying off the top that says "Anderson Distillery Co." Two more horses and a wagon are depicted to the right. In the background, there is a rectangular building with a sign on the front that says "U.S. Bonded Warehouse". Trees and hills are in the background and large building sits on top of the hill in the center background.
Notes The Anderson Distillery stood on Beargrass Creek on old Gregory St. between Lexington and Mellwood Ave. in Louisville. The distillery was first listed in Louisville city directories in 1874.
