Description This is a barrel auger. There is a wooden handle fitted horizontally in the top of the auger. The auger is metal with a screw tip. The top of the auger is painted red. There is a slit down the side of the auger which is hollow.
Notes Collected by former staff at Eastern State Hospital for a planned museum, 1956-69. Eastern was opened in 1824 as the state "Lunatic Asylum." The collection documented the lives of patients as sick persons and as wards of the state forced to earn their keep.
