Description This dress is made of purple challis wool. It has an applied black braid trim in a leaf design on the bodice. The sleeves are trimmed with the same applied black braid. The bodice is made of three panels of fabric and has a muslin lining. The sleeves are short and are one panel each. The skirt is three panels of fabric. The skirt is gathered and pleated at the waist. where the bodice meets the waist there is a slim band of piping. There is the same piping where the sleeves meet the bodice. The neckline and the sleeves are trimmed with black fabric tape. The construction of the dress is a combination of hand and machine sewing but the trim is hand stitched. The skirt has the black braid trim approximately two inches from the hem. There is a five button closure in the back. The button holes are reinforced but the buttons are missing.

Notes An old card in the file says, "Belonged to the Prof. Simeon Craig family of New Liberty, Ky."
