Description This plaster relief is oval in shape and features the bust portrait of a young girl. At the top is the text "KATHERINE / THE ROYCROFT BABY." At the lower left "ST JEROME / S.C.." The top is glazed in a dark bronze color and the red clay color is visible on the back. A piece of metal wire has been attached to the top through a hole from top to back.
Notes This was a massed produced art piece made by the Roycroft company in East Aurora, NY. An advertisement in The Philistine, a Periodical of Protest, Volume 13 lists this relief and other for sale and expounds "Made from genuine East Aurora clay, as dug by Ali Baba from the bank by the dam-side, & modeled by St. Gerome in an Idle Hour." The one as seen here were sold for two dollars.
