|Description||This is a positive (A) and a negative (B) copy of an 1885 teacher's certificate for H.E. Thompson, issued in Pendleton County, Ky.|
The original certificate was one of the first issued by Pendleton County, Ky.
The copies were mailed to the Kentucky Historical Society in December 1949 by B.R. Chapman, a professor of history at the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College in Stillwater, Okla. In his accompanying letter, Chapman explains that Thompson "presented the original among his credentials in securing a position on the faculty of this college in 1893… It occurred to me that the type of certificates issued in Pendleton County in 1889 would be of historical value."
