Description This is a German silver Henshall-VanAntwerp baitcasting reel. It has click and drag switches on the tailplate. The reel has a single crank handle with a counterbalance. The handle has an ivory grip. The spool is wound with green cotton line. The maker's mark is stamped on the headcap and the patent date is stamped on the tailplate.
Notes From the collection of Mt. Sterling dentist William D. VanAntwerp. VanAntwerp became good friends with Dr. J.A. Henshall, author of Book of the Black Bass. At Henshall's request, Dr. VanAntwerp designed or modified a baitcasting reel, later marketed by Thomas H. Chubb & Son as the Henshall VanAntwerp reel.
