Description This is a man's black silk European doctorate gown from the University of Bani, Italy. It is a loose black silk gown with a center front opening. The wide lapels and cuffs are black satin. The closure is large metal hook and eyes. There is large gold silk braid and tassels attached to each shoulder. The sleeves have a large opening and have a narrow gold trim above the cuff. A label on the inside reads "Edgar Erskine Hume Dottore in Economia E. Commercia Universita el di Bani so Agosto 1945."
Notes This robe and morterboard (1946.2.2) were awarded to General Edgar Erskine Hume as part of ceremonies honoring the liberation of Italy. He received a Doctorate in Economics from the University of Bani, Italy.
