|Description||This pen and ink sketch of a road scene was done by Samuel Kaighn. It depicts a dirt road with a few plants growing along a stone wall that is broken down on the left side, and there is an arched entryway in the center foreground. Behind the wall, there is a simple house with two small windows on the left side and three windows depicted on the side of the house facing the viewing. There is a chimney on the left side of the roof. In the center of the drawing, there is a tall, round tower with a cone-shaped roof with a cross on the top. A large building is in the right background with several tall trees to the right. There is a roof pointing up above the wall on the fall right side. In the background, there is another wall with a structure and trees shown at the top.|
Samuel Kaighn, was born in Virginia on June 16, 1833. He served as a surgeon during the Civil War.
