Description This chromolithograph of the White Headed Pigeon is from the Bien Edition of Audubon's Birds of America. No. 8-4, Plate 280. It depicts two black pidgeons with white foreheads that are locking beaks while perched on an orange flowered tree. The legend at the bottom reads: "Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon, F.R.S., F.L.S. / Chromolithy. by J. Bien, New York 1860 / White Headed Pidgeon / Columba Leucocephala / Male, 1. Female, 2. / Cordia Sebestena." There are two signatures in ink on the reverse side that read: "Bart A. Brown" and "Nina M. Visscher".
Notes Audubon was born in 1785 and died in 1851. Bien was born in 1826 and died in 1909.
