Description This is a tobacco knife with a carved hardwood handle, formerly stained black and later painted dark brown. It has a wrought iron rod wedged through handle at an angle that is flattened and split at the other end to accept a flat steel blade that runs approximately parallel to the handle. The top of the blade has rounded edges, while the cutting edge is arched and worn from use. There is a "K" carved into the back end of the handle.
Notes The University of Kentucky began collecting in 1957 for the Kentucky Life Museum, an endeavor to "provide a permanent place for the hundreds of articles that have had a bearing upon the way people in Kentucky lived and worked..." Eventually, Waveland entered the Kentucky State Park System and was reinterpreted as a house museum. These artifacts were transfered as part of that reinterpretation.
