Description This white on white linen and cotton counterpane is handwoven and embroidered. It is constructed from three panels. The embroidery patterns include a swag and tassel border, cornucopia, a tree of life in center and a weeping willow tree. The piece is stitched using chain, cretan or fishbone, satin, outline, drawn thread work, knot, back stitch, long and short stem stitches.
Notes According to the donor this coverlet belonged to her grandfather A.F. Dunn and was made by Elizabeth Harrison Brashear, Mr. Dunn's mother. The cotton and flax that this spread was woven from was raised on a farm near West Point, Kentucky.
