Description This is a chromolithograph on paper of the "Red Headed Duck" by J. J. Audubon created for the Bien Edition of "Birds of America." The image depicts two ducks resting on a brown dirt surface with tall green grass and a blue clouded sky in the background. The lower right bird is sitting compactly is covered in brown feathers. The right bird is streching its head out and walking. It has a reddish-brown head and dark brown neck and blueish body feathers and beak. In the upper left corner it reads "No. 8-2" and the upper right corner reads "PLATE 396." The lower left section reads "Drawn from Nature by J. J. Audubon, F. R. S., F. L. S." and the lower right section reads "Chromolithy. by J. Bien, New York 1860." The Middle legend reads "Red-headed Duck, FULIGULA FERINA, STEPH./ Male, 1. Female, 2." On the back are written two signatures in faded brown ink, "Bart A. Brown" and "Nina M. Visscher."
Notes Audubon was born in 1785 and died in 1851. Bien was born in 1826 and died in 1909.
