Description This girandole is made of cast metal is attached to a rectangular white marble base. The cast brass image at the base of the girandole is a man and woman (William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway) in seventeenth century dress. The man has on knee breeches with stockings, a doublet and cape, and a fancy hat with feathers. He is wearing a goatee and has a sword belt on. He has his right hand on his hip and his left behind the woman. The woman is wearing a long dress with long sleeves. Her right hand is holding up the skirt to reveal a decorative underskirt. Her left hand is held up to her chest. Above them there are three branches that hold the candleholders. The center branch is higher than the flanking ones. The branches have an elaborate scrollwork of leaves and vines. Glass prisms cut with a floral design hang from leaf-shaped bobeches (the surround or apron on the candle-holders). The candle holders themselves have a light striped design.
Notes This piece along with 1986.36.2, were purchased for the Old State Capitol restoration in the 1970s. There is no provenance on these pieces.
