Description This is a "Grandmother's Flower Garden" patterned quilt top. This quilt top does not appear to be finished. The quilt top is comprised of eighteen flowers each made of 37 small hexagons. The flowers are made with a central hexagon and three rows of hexagons surrounding it with an interconnecting row of dark blue silk between all of the flowers. The flowers are separated into three rows of six flowers. The flowers are made from multi-colored silks, and several of the flowers have a solid dark colored velvet center. The quilt is constructed using the English Paper Piecing method where the individual silk pieces are sewn onto cut pieces of paper, and then the pieces are hand sewn together. The cream colored basting stitches are intact and visible. The paper is made of letters, magazine print, and other documents. The text is still legible on many of the intact pieces.
Notes The quilt pieces were made by Huldah John (Chinn) Allen for her first granddaughter, the donor's mother.
