Description This is a Cimbalom or hammer dulcimer. It has a mahogany veneer over spruce and oak secondaries, with cut nails. The mahogany veneered cabinet base has four drawers in front stacked two over two. The drawer assemblies are flanked by scrolled supports for the dulcimer cabinet. The recessed panel between stacked pairs of drawers has a bead molding. The drawers have two original wooden pulls each, widely spaced dovetail joints, and slide in bottoms. The drawer bottoms are roughly finished on exterior. There are scrolled feet on the front of the cabinet base, straight rectilinear feet on the back. The dulcimer cabinet is a 9" deep mahogany veneered rectangle with rounded sides. The lid is hinged at the back and in the middle and features a raised lip on the front and a beaded molding on front and sides. There wooden handled wrought iron tuning wrench and a pair of yarn wrapped wooden "hammers" are stored in the top left drawer.
Notes A Hungarian folk instrument, a cimbalom is a hammer dulcimer, played with curved wool wrapped sticks.
