Description This rag carpet has alternating bands of yellow and pink rags in a weft with a 6" section of black on one end. The pink and yellow stripes are about 3 ΒΌ inches wide. There is a pink and yellow cotton string warp and the rug has a tied fringe on the top and bottom.
Notes Handwoven rag rugs like this were very common in houses during the first half of the nineteenth century. These colorful rugs used fabric remnants for economical and decorative floor covering, especially in less formal, private spaces like bedrooms.
