Description This is a "Spider's Web" patterned quilt. There are twenty-three full hexagons and four half hexagons on the quilt. The half blocks are on the second and fourth rows. The hexagons are made up of cotton fabrics in a variety of patterns and shades of brown, red, green white and gray. Each hexagon has a center made of a red and white calico. In between each hexagon block are white diamond shaped pieces. The quilt has a blue border that has a white pattern. The blue border is approximately two and a quarter inch wide. There is a small section at one corner where the border is a grayish green with white polka dots. (possibly the quilter ran out of the blue and white fabric?) This section measures approximately thirteen inches in length and two inches high. The entire quilt has a red (white design) edge binding on the outside of the blue print border. The quilting on the blue border is slanted staight lines about three-quarters of an inch apart. The quilting in the white diamond area is a diamond pattern. The quilitng on the hexagon blocks is straight lines. The backing is a plain muslin backing. There is some light batting in the quilt.
Notes This quilt was pieced by Margaret O'Sullivan Langford, the donor's grandmother. Mrs. Langford was born around 1854 and died on April 13 1894. She lived in Spencer County, Ky., near the town of Van Buren.
