Description This is a political ribbon made of white silk satin with woven images of Rutherford B. Hayes and William A. Wheeler embroidered in black and gray. There are two horizontal black lines near the top edge of the ribbon with red and blue text embroidered between the lines that reads, "REPUBLICAN / CANDIDATES." Above the images of Hayes and Wheeler, there is red and black text that says "FOR / PRESIDENT" and "FOR / VICE PRESIDENT" respectively. Below each candidate, there is black, blue, and a red text that says "R.B. HAYES/OF/OHIO" and "W.A. WHEELER/OF/NEW YORK." There is a blue and white candy stripe bar embroidered along the bottom. At the top of the ribbon, in reverse, are the letters for the maker's mark: B.B. TILT & SON., NEW YORK & PATERSON, N.J.
Notes Rutherford B. Hayes and William A. Wheeler were elected in 1876 over Democrats Samuel J. Tilden and Thomas A. Hendricks.
