Description This is General William O. Butler's Presentation sword and scabbard is silver plated, and is heavily engraved with military motifs and trophies. A silver hilt, guard and quillions, attached to the counter-guard, gold over brass military trophy with flags and drums. In the pommel is a yellow stone surrounded by a wreath of gold. An inscription on the pieces reads, "Presented by the People of Kentucky to / Major Genl Wm. O Butler / in testimony of his daring gallantry leading his brave division in the desperate / charge against a battery in the Battle of Monterey."
Notes Presented to General William O. Butler by the Commonwealth of Kentucky for his services at the Battle of Monterrey. The Kentucky legislature also awarded swords to Zachary Taylor and Major Phillip Barbour.
