|Object Name||Poster, Political|
|Dimensions||H-13.938 W-22 inches|
|Description||This political poster had a white background with black text. Across the top are three stripes in alternating colors - black, red, black. To the left of these stripes is the name "MAE" in black text. Under the stripes in large black text is the name "GIRKEY." The "K" and the "Y" of this name are emphasized by being larger than the surrounding text and red with a black border. Running under and through the name "GIRKEY" are three more stripes in the same pattern as the top. Black text under this reads "State Treasurer '87."|
Mae Girkey ran for the office of Kentucky State Treasurer in 1987 but finished last in the Democratic primary. Robert Mead won the primary and would go on to win the election, defeating Republican Carol W. Reed.
This object was donated on November 14, 1988 by Drexell R. Davis. Davis, a self-described "Yellow Dog" Democrat, held several elected positions in the Kentucky state government. His thirty-three years of public service prompted his interest in collecting political memorabilia.
