Description This small, leather covered wooden trunk, used to store jewelry, was brought to Virginia from London before the Revolution. The lid and front are decorated with a (now faded) stamped pattern of crosshatching and both are also lined with another pattern of fleur-de-lis. The sides and back are stamped with large decorated crosshatches.The inside of the box has been lined in newspaper over which has been stamped or drawn a pattern of vines and leaves.
Notes Old Catalogue: "Brought to Virginia from London before the Revolution." by John Upshaw Burgess. It was used for jewelry.
