Description This is a circular celluloid process metal political button for the gubernatorial campaign of Martha Layne Collins in 1983. The button has a white background with a blue photo of Collins in the middle and dark blue lettering at the top that reads "OUR FIRST LADY', "KY" and "'83" on each side and "GOVERNOR" at the bottom. On the curled under edge there is dark blue lettering that reads "SGC For MLC '83". There is a safety pin closure attached to the back.
Notes Collins, Martha Layne (b. 1936) of Versailles, Woodford County, Ky. Born in Bagdad, Shelby County, Ky., December 7, 1936. Democrat. Clerk of the Kentucky court of appeals; elected 1975; Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky, 1979-83; Governor of Kentucky, 1983-87.
