Notes Major John Holloway and his wife, Anne Starling, came from Mecklenburg County, Virginia to Henderson County Kentucky prior to 1798. Maj. Holloway built a spacious house with additional outbuildings, one containing rooms for spinning and weaving. Maj. Holloway was one of the first, if not the first settler in Henderson County to raise cotton, which he successfully did until the year 1820. This bolster cover and counterpane (1980.12.1) and bed skirt (1980.12.3) were made from flax and cotton raised on the farm. The threads were carded and woven on the Holloway looms.
