Description This wooden bucksaw is composed of a wooden frame of two curved uprights. Of the two, the front upright is longer and extends below the blade to form a handle. The uprights are tied together by a turnbuckle at the top. Two curved wooden braces have been morticed into the uprights in the middle, and the saw blade is pegged into slots in the uprights at the bottom. To hold the whole together, wrought iron pins were driven through the frame and blade and bent over. Traces of the original red paint still exist on the wood.
Notes The University of Kentucky began collecting in 1957 for the Kentucky Life Museum, an endeavor to "provide a permanent place for the hundreds of articles that have had a bearing upon the way people in Kentucky lived and worked..." Eventually, Waveland entered the Kentucky State Park System and was reinterpreted as a house museum. These artifacts were transfered as part of that reinterpretation.
