Description This chromolithograph on paper is of a Fish Crow from the Bien Edition of Aububon's Birds of America. No. 10-2, Plate 226. It depicts two black Crows perched upon a Honey Locust Tree. The top bird has its left wing raised, and the lower bird has a Crab clutched in its left talon. The tree is heavy with long pods. The legend at the bottom reads: "Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon, F,R,S. F,L,S. / Chromolithy. by J. Bien, New York 1860 / Fish Crow. Corvus Ossifragus, Wils. Male, 1. Female, 2. Vulgo Honey Locust, Gleditschia triacanthos". On the back of this chromolithograph are two signatures in ink that read: "Bart A. Brown" and "Nina M. Visscher".
Notes Audubon was born in 1785 and died in 1851. Bien was born in 1826 and died in 1909.
