Description This is a hitching post made of an iron pipe painted black. There is a cap with a circular wrought iron ring. The cap is threaded onto the post. It also has a metal base pole which is bolted to a wooden stand.
Notes Collected by former staff at Eastern State Hospital for a planned museum, 1956-69. Eastern was opened in 1824 as the state "Lunatic Asylum." The collection documented the lives of patients as sick persons and as wards of the state forced to earn their keep.
