Description This painting shows a city street with horse-drawn carriages. There is a horse drawn cart in lower foreground. There are several people with umbrellas on the street as well. This appears to be a copy of Sawyier's 'Rainy Day in Frankfort'.
Notes Alternate titles listed on the backing include 'Main & Lewis St. Fkt-corners of Farmer's Bk and Hudson Store' and 'Frankfort, Kentucky Main St. at Calvert Corner.' This piece is a copy of the Paul Sawyier painting 'A Rainy Day in Frankfort.' The artist may have been part of a group known as the Paul Sawyier Art Club that met in the Frankfort Hotel. The Frankfort Hotel was owned by J.J. King, a noted Sawyier patron, and King displayed many of his Sawyier originals in the hotel. The painting 'A Rainy Day in Frankfort' was among the works in King's collection.
