Description This is a celluloid process button depicting a sepia tone headshot photo of William S. Taylor. The subject is looking left, and he is wearing a dark suit jacket, bowtie, and he has a full mustache. The button has stamped tinplate back with an inscription along the top collar that reads, "PATENTED MAY 17, 1898." The back also has a steel stickpin and cutout catch.
Notes William Sylvester Taylor (October 10, 1853 – August 2, 1928) was the 33rd Governor of Kentucky. He was initially declared the winner of the disputed gubernatorial election of 1899, but the Kentucky General Assembly reversed the election results, giving the victory to his opponent, William Goebel. Taylor served only 50 days as governor.
