Description This is a bust of George Washington. The bust is sitting on a pedestal, which has a square base (all one piece). It has "Washington" under the bust.
Notes WPA notebook cites original sculptor as Jean Antoine Houden. Mass produced by Bosch & Lomb, Rochester, NY. Houden came to America in 1785 from France, commissioned by Virginia to execute a statue of Washington. For a photograph of this sculpture on display at the New State Capitol see photograph in KHS Special Collections (1987ph2.2499). The wood pedestal in the photograph was located by David Buchta with Historic Properties in August 2008.
