Description Part A) The dress has a stand-up collar trimmed with a dark brown silk at the top and the bottom. The seam at the dropped shoulder is trimmed with a brown silk cord. There are long sleeves with curved seams and cuffs trimmed with tan grosgrain pleated ruffle. There are stays in the jacket but some are missing. The bodice is fitted to the hips with the back of the bodice having darts and seams that flow into a flap that is trimmed in brown silk. There is a bustle in the back. There is a front closure with small wooden brown ball buttons. The skirt of the dress has a box pleat at the hem that goes three quarters of the way around the hem of the skirt. The back of the skirt has a small train that is trimmed in the brown silk band.

Part C) is a jacket made of the same brown material. It has long fitted sleeves and a row of nine buttons covered in dark brown silk. The loops on the opposite side of the opening that would fit over the buttons are missing.
Notes This dress belonged to the donors' mother. It was her "second day" dress when she married in 1876.
