Description This is a celluloid-type pinback button with a safety pin enclosure. It has a red, white and blue background with white and red text. The red background has the name "HUMPHREY" in white in an arc over a black and white photo of Hubert Humphrey. The words "for PRESIDENT in '68" are in white text on the blue background below this photo. On the left side of this photo is the word "Unity" in red text, and underlined. On the right side of the photo are the words "RESPONSIBLE/LEADERSHIP" also underlined. The button also has an inscription along the back edge that reads "AFL CIO/LOCAL 64/UNIONMADE".
Notes Hubert Humphrey, Senator from Minnesota, was the Democratic presidential nominee in 1968. He lost a close election to former Vice Pres. Richard Nixon. The donor worked in the local presidential campaigns of Republican Nelson Rockefeller in 1964 and Democrat Eugene McCarthy in 1968 in Louisville.
