Description The bill is a 6th issue $50 note, 1st series, plate A (y) on light green paper in black ink with a green overprint. The serial number is 29288. It is located on both sides of the central image and is stamped in red ink. The border has a pattern of "FIFTY" and "50" inside a black line and decorative corners. The design is symmetrical with a central image of Jefferson Davis (from the chest up). On both sides in the upper corner is a circle with a oval pattern in it and the number "50" over that in white. Below this in the green overprint is a rectangle with a horizontal line pattern over which is a repeat of a shape with "FIFTY" over "50" on it. Below this is long light green rectangle with decoration on the short ends, also part of the overprint. The signatures for the register and treasurer are over these green rectangles. In between these, is a sunburst like design in green ink with the number "50" in it and inscribed over it in black ink is "RECEIVABLE IN PAYMENT OF All DUES EXCEPT EXPORT DUTIES." Split between the left and right edge is the inscription "FUNDABLE IN 8 PER CENT STOCK OR BONDS OF THE CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA." Surrounding the central image in a variety of fonts is "Two Years after the Ratification of a Treaty of Peace between the Confederate States and the United States The Confederate STATES OF AMERICA Will pay to the bearer on demand FIFTY DOLLARS / Richmond April 6th 1863." There is a watermark of "CSA" in a script font and wavy lines. On the right edge is stamped in red ink "NOVEMBER, 1863."

The reverse has a geometric design with a decorative patterned circle with scalloped edges in the center. On both sides of the central circle is a smaller patterned circle with the number "50" in it. A ribbon is curled under the small circle on the left to the top of the central circle and has "THE CONFEDERATE" on it. On the other side is curled under the small circle on the right to the top of the central circle and has "STATES of AMERICA" on it. On the right edge near the bottom, hand written in brown ink is "WBT," it looks to be ink similar to that of the signatures on the obverse.
