Description This carpet sweeper is encased within a wooden frame with a metal handle running across the top. There are brass hinges on the back of the object and a brass latch on the front that can be opened to dump collected debris from the sweeper. There is a wooden spindle in the center of the object with lots of bristles protruding from holes along the wooden cylinder's surface. There is steel plating on either side of this bristled spindle. There is a wooden wheel and metal cogs on both sides of the object facing from the bottom (as seen in the object image above), which set the spindle into motion upon movement. There are screws in the sides of the object that hold these wheels and cogs in place.
Notes Carpet-Sweeper, based on patent no. 209687, which was invented by Liverus Hull of Charlestown, Massachusetts. Hull's design was patented November 5, 1878.
