Description This is a political button for Harry S. Truman who ran for re-election in the 1948 presidential election. The button is a celluloid type button with a black and white headshot photo of Harry S. Truman centered in the middle of the front of the pin. He is looking straight ahead. Flanking each side of his head are small black donkeys. Above his head are the words "For President", and around the bottom "Harry S. Truman". The white background has faded to a yellowish tone.
Notes Harry S. Truman was Franklin Delano Roosevelt's vice president for just 82 days before Roosevelt died and Truman became the 33rd president. Truman was re-elected during the presidential campaign of 1948 facing New York's Republican governor Thomas Dewey in the general election. He served as President during the years 1945-1953.
