Description This smoothing plane has a wooden sole with a cast iron top. The top is black enameled. The plane is a boat shaped casting which holds the adjustable iron. A hand screw behind the frog adjusts the angle of the iron. There is a handle screwed to rear of casting and a knob at the front. The rear handle is broken.
Notes Bailey's adjustable wood plane was introduced in 1867, based on Leonard Bailey's patents and manufactured for the Stanley Rule and Level Company. These planes competed well with all iron planes "due to their sweeter movement over wood."
