Description This is a four-poster cherry empire bed. There is a pineapple carved atop each post and in the center medallion of the headboard. There is a relief carving on the headboard of dolphins and acanthus foliage. The posts are carved with intertwining acanthus leaves.
Notes By family tradition, this bed was purchased by Henry Gayle in Frankfort in 1902-03 at an auction of furnishings from the Governor's Mansion on High Street. Gayle moved to Columbus, Ky. and traded the bed to the donor's father, who moved to Louisville in 1905. The Currey family moved to Omaha, NB in 1919. Refinished by Bittner's of Louisville in 1905.
