Description This is a print from a wood engraving of a drawing by Henri Lovie. It is page 20 of the October 4, 1862 edition of "Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper." It is captioned "The War in Kentucky-Up the Licking Valley, Looking From the Fortifications on Tunnel Hill, Near Covington, Along the Covington and Licking Railway-Union Citizens Digging Rifle Pits and Felling Trees to Resist the Approach oth the Rebel Troops, September 9.-From a sketch by Mr. Henri Lovie." The five men in the foreground drink water, wipe sweat, and carry brush as several men in the middle ground dig a long trench. The Licking Valley it's railroad and farms are the backdrop. A small group of soldiers relax in the lower left background.
